About the Event
Our CQ Shopfront Artisan In Residence for the North Burnett region is the wonderful Kiara Bulley.
Kiara Bulley is an academic, designer, maker and illustrator. As a practitioner, she develops collaborative creative work through The Stitchery Collective and her own label Bulley Bulley. As an academic she has over 10 years of experience teaching and researching in the areas of fashion practice and theory.
Kiara is one of the founding members and directors of The Stitchery Collective, a not-for-profit artist run organisation that investigates the intersection between fashion and people. Founded in 2010, The Stitchery runs an annual program with the aim of engaging the community through fashion making workshops, public talks, exhibitions, interactive installations, and collaborative projects with local community groups, state art galleries, performing arts companies and museums.
In 2019, Kiara launched her fashion label Bulley Bulley in partnership with her sister Bianca Bulley. Bulley Bulley draws on Kiara and Bianca’s interests in fashion, wearing stories and history; fascinations born from their shared work across fashion research, design and costume making for film and stage. They enjoy playing with what fashion is, can be, and the ideas that come out of experimenting together.
Fashion, textiles and accessories emerged as a strong theme when consulting with the North Burnett so we are excited to bring Kiara's talents into the community to mentor local artists and makers and to work on creating fashion and adornments with the theme "Heart on your Sleeve" - creating work inspired by the North Burnett.
Thank you to our project partner artisan for recommending these wonderful artists to be part of CQ Shopfront. Thank you to Arts Queensland, the Regional Arts Fund, Flying Arts, CQ RASN, CQUniversity, North Burnett Regional Council and their arts and community team for their financial and in-kind support in making this residency happen.
