About the Event

Introducing our Gladstone Region CQ Shopfront Artisans in Residence - Jeanette Stok. Jeanette Stok is an artist, in addition to being a scientist and teacher. She explores personal memories and experiences of the everyday, which include how repetitive physical actions are an integral component of the generation of knowledge, identity and heritage. Throughout her childhood Jeanette was surrounded by a wide variety of traditional crafts, such as sewing and needlecraft that both her mother and grandmother introduced to her. She often references these craft techniques and materials in her artwork.  Traditionally, counted thread-work embroidery produces a wide array of patterns by repeating similar motifs and altering their arrangement. Using these embroidery techniques, she experiments with the themes and possibilities introduced when employing unconventional materials; this transforms both the materials’ intended use and the methodology on which it is based.

Hear about what Jeanette will be doing during her residency in Gladstone and how local artists can get involved.  This webinar is also great for artists from other regions to learn about Jeanette's practice.
