CQ Shopfront Locative and Stop Motion Collage with Rebecca Lewis

Experience the joy of bringing paper cut outs to life. Using nothing but paper collage and a smart phone app you’ll learn how to create delightful analogue animations.

Artist Rebecca Lewis will step you through the stop motion animation process from character selection to story building using a mixture of vintage photographs, old picture storybooks and op-shopped paint by numbers.

Rebecca will provide a selection of materials for the workshop. You are asked to please bring copies (not originals) of historical family photos (people and places) that you can use to tell your story of living in the Fraser Coast region.

Once you’ve got these animation skills under your belt you won’t be able to stop!

The workshop will provide:

• Old magazines
• Scissors
• light refreshments

What to bring:

• Your smart phone or tablet
• You may like to pre-install the FREE version of Stop Motion Studio (available on Apple and Android)
• Please bring along your own pictures that you might like to add to your scene (note: you may have to cut them out so bring a photo copy if it’s a treasured item)
• Please wear closed shoes

ABOUT REBECCA LEWIS:

Rebecca is self-taught textile artist, seamstress and printmaker living and working in Ipswich, Queensland. A degree in Environmental Management, along with a personal philosophy grounded in sustainability, informs the direction of Rebecca’s arts practice. She works predominantly with vintage fabrics, discarded craft supplies and found objects to create one-off or short-run garments, accessories and homewares.

Rebecca's first exhibition in Ipswich featured lino prints of local houses, she experimented with using these prints in unusual ways. This exploration is what led to the creation of her first outdoor collages and stop motion animation. In 2018 Rebecca won the Queensland Regional Art Awards – Digital Art prize for a stop motion film.

Rebecca says, 'I love teaching not only because it’s an opportunity to share the things I love but for the thrill of watching others experience that little ‘a hah’ moment when they start to realize their own creative potential.'
